I am delighted to share with you that our school has achieved the Bronze Award for Careers and Work Related Experiences through Careers Wales. This is a recognition of our commitment, within our curriculum learning, to make all children fully aware of the exciting opportunities that lay ahead of them. As many of us know, finding a job which we enjoy and in which we feel successful, can go a long way to making us happy. Next, we will be working towards the Silver Award. How can you help? If you work or volunteer in any way in our community, why not come into school and talk about what you do? Maybe bring some items/tools/uniform/pictures from your job? The children are always fascinated to see what people do and the wider their understanding of the variety of careers, the better.
We all know that the world of work isn’t all success and happiness! For many of you juggling childcare during the long summer break can be a pain and expensive. If you haven’t already, why not register for our Food and Fun summer project which runs for the first three weeks of the holidays? It may make things a little easier for you and will strongly promote healthy attitudes to nutrition and activity for your children. It will be far better than time spent indoors on devices.
Finally, on the theme of health and happiness, please can you make us happy by only sending your child to school with healthy snacks and drinks? This means water and fruit. We are seeing all sorts of juice, squash and unhealthy options at playtimes and we are going to have to start saying no. If there are children with specific exceptions for various reasons, this will need discussing with class teachers and/or ALNCo/Headteacher. I know in the short term this may mean difficult conversations at home and in school but we all know the long term benefits for our children.
This week’s attendance has been 93%. Well done all – get plenty of sleep, fruit, vegetables and water and I think we can achieve 95%!
