I’m sure you are all tired of hearing about/dealing with over-stretched budgets, but I just want to highlight how important volunteers and external (free) providers become when services are so stretched. At St Joseph’s we are blessed to have so many people and organisations who come in to help add to our curriculum offer. It does, indeed, take a village to raise a child and this last week in school, this has been clearly evident.

On Monday, Joe Lambe from Cricket Wales, came to do coaching sessions with all children in Years 3-6. He started by sharing a video of a Ukranian refugee young girl, who settled in Conwy, took up cricket at a local club and became a star of the team. We hope children from our school will be equally inspired to go along to sessions at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club in Rhos on Sea.

On Tuesday morning, Conwy Music Cooperative came in for another free session with Year 3 pupils. This drumming workshop was the latest in a series aiming to inspire our children to learn to play an instrument and foster a lifelong love of music.

On Tuesday afternoon, we welcomed many grandparents to school to help with our Year 1 and 2 topic on toys. They came to share their memories of toys they played with when they were small. The afternoon was filled with chat and questions and there was a buzz of excitement in the air – mostly from the grandparents. We observed pupils awe and wonder, as toys from the past were shared. There was such a variety and pupils had the opportunity to play and ask lots of questions. Many thanks to all those who gave their time. We have heard that the grandparents enjoyed themselves!

Thank you to everyone else who volunteers in some way to support our school. This may be on the PTA, listening to readers, sorting the library, repairing things or being an extra pair of hands on a school trip. Every one of you make a difference. If you’d like to help, just give us a call.

Unfortunately, attendance dipped under 90% this week – let’s not undo all our hard work! We hope all the children have a lovely half term holiday and that parents/carers get some rest too. Looks like the summer may be arriving, just in time.
