Following our recent Estyn inspection, we have worked closely with Conwy Local Authority and governors to develop a detailed Post-Inspection Action Plan (PIAP). We are pleased to confirm that this plan has now been approved by Estyn and will guide our school improvement work over the coming months.

What is the plan designed to achieve?
The plan focuses on four key areas identified during the inspection:
– Improving the quality of teaching, particularly for older pupils.
– Strengthening leadership monitoring and self-evaluation so that it leads directly to improved outcomes for pupils.
– Ensuring pupils develop their literacy and numeracy skills progressively as they move through the school.
– Improving challenge, assessment and feedback so that pupils make the best possible progress.

What will parents and pupils notice?

Improved teaching and learning
We are introducing a clear set of lesson expectations to make sure every child benefits from high-quality teaching every day. By ensuring a consistent approach across all classes, we can provide pupils with the best possible opportunities to learn, thrive and succeed.

A stronger approach to writing
Our whole-school approach to writing is being refined to allow pupils to further develop their writing skills progressively from year to year. This includes:
– A clearly structured writing process consistent for each class
– Increased opportunities for extended writing
– Greater focus on why we are writing and for who we are writing

Enhanced mathematics and numeracy provision
Staff will work together to strengthen the teaching of mathematics and numeracy and ensure pupils have more opportunities to apply numeracy skills across the curriculum in meaningful, real-life contexts.

Better feedback for pupils
We are revising our marking and feedback procedures so that pupils receive clearer guidance about what they have done well and what they need to do next to improve. Age-appropriate feedback guidance will also be displayed in classrooms.

How will progress be monitored?
The plan includes a rigorous programme of:
– Lesson observations
– Book scrutiny
– Pupil voice activities
– Personalised Assessment analysis
– Governor monitoring visits
– Local Authority review meetings
Governors and Conwy Local Authority advisers will work alongside school leaders to monitor progress, on a half termly basis, and ensure that improvements are making a positive difference to pupils’ learning and outcomes.

Working in partnership with parents
Parents are an important part of our improvement journey. Throughout the implementation of the plan we will:
– Share updates on progress on a half termly basis
– Seek parent feedback through questionnaires
– Use feedback from families to inform our ongoing development work

Looking ahead
This is an ambitious but achievable plan that builds on the many strengths of our school. Our staff, governors and Local Authority partners are fully committed to securing the very best outcomes for every child. We will continue to keep parents informed as the plan progresses and celebrate the improvements we achieve together.

Thank you for your continued support.
